how did this get here? is this update?
I’ve been busy. Yes, yes, new job and all that. Doesn’t leave me much time for plugins, unfortunately. It’s a tragedy I know but the fact of the matter is that plugins (plugin, rather) won’t pay the bills, so yes I had to seek employment. Anyhow..
Updates forthcoming:
Also, new projects. Something else to do with Prowl. I’m only going to write the frontend. That is so long as the guy who wrote the backend doesn’t think I died or something.
Final thought, linkfarms? Things that aggregate posts from other sites, and then group them into inexplicable bunches on god awful websites? It’s a thing I don’t understand. Was Googling WP-Prowl to see if any nice people were saying nice things about it (some were!) but I get a bunch of goofy sites that are reposting posts that I’ve made to the WordPress forums. Useful? I fail to see how.
The funniest thing about moving to the west coast is discovering how many things in your life depend on time zones. Apparently, I’m making posts to my blog in the future! Exciting as it may sound, I think I’ll have to change wordpress’ time zone to Pacific.
Took the time to post up my résumé to the website. You can give it a look over to the right. I do appreciate feedback of all types, even if (or especially if) you are a potential employer.
Writing a résumé is always difficult. The balance of information is especially tough: do I write too much or too little? Every teacher you’ve ever had will say that a summary, objective, and the like are important, and aren’t to be left off. I’ve always taken the approach of leaving these things, getting myself established in a cover letter, and letting the résumé speak only as my history and skills. When I needed to review the résumé of peers in the past, I always found that everybody’s Profile, Goals, and Summaries read the same: I am experienced. I am a hard worker. I am detail oriented (a big one).
Yes, yes, I’m sure that we all are. So I figure it’s best left unsaid. I’m sure that hiring managers appreciate the time saved not staring at their monitors. At least I hope so. I’ve never been on that side of the desk. I know I’m good, but getting that first meeting is the hardest part.
Anyhow, résumé. What a time.
mac:
i was working on websites, so transmit and textmate were running, as well as illustrator for my template and photoshop was editing and resizing photos happily. itunes was keeping the jams going, safari had about 20 windows open, everything was running and running smooth.
a client sends and email and asks for a dvd quality version of a timelapse i’d done a few months back. i connect my external drive and pop open final cut. deciding i should output the 45 minute video into something more viewable, i create a new timeline, adjust the clip speed (telling it to blend the frames) and hit export to compressor. i hide final cut and go back to textmate to finish editing some content. compressor finishes and i start dvd studio pro to dump the m2v onto a disc.
fast forward to the end of the day. i’m packing up, and realize final cut’s still open. it swaps in right away, and happily informs me that it’s completed my render while i was working on other things. i never even noticed it was spinning. itunes never skips a beat…
pc:
same day same office i move off the mac for a second to process a few blueprints and upload them to our collaboration software. i need to convert a few files from html to PDF, so i open up acrobat and set my batches running. an email comes in, i maximize outlook 2007 and select the message. outlook’s titlebar changes from its usually “styled” version to standard windows XP “classic” look. half the window goes white. the hard disk light starts blinky blinking and then goes on steady. the whole thing chokes. i know what this means. i go back to the mac working on websites. 7 minutes later the pc’s hard disk activity is still steady on…
here’s a new website with one of those “blog” things everyone keeps talking about. maybe i’ll update it some. no promises yet.
